The passing of the great writer and Vedic astrologer, Bepin Behari occurred on Saturday, July 23, 2005 at his home in New Delhi, India. He was a noted authority on Jyotish, Eastern philosophy and occultism. Mr. Behari published numerous books during his illustrious career including Myths and Symbols of Vedic Astrology, Fundamentals of Vedic Astrology, Esoteric Principles of Vedic Astrology and Planets in the Signs and Houses. In 1979, his text titled A Study in Astrological Occultism won the prestigious international Meyer Foundation Award of Switzerland for philosophy.

His prolific writings and penetrating approach to astrology often explored the deeper esoteric, symbolic and mythological aspects of Vedic Astrology.  He was also a regular contributor to The Astrological Magazine and The Times of India.

An important feature of Bepin’s astrological counseling was his ability to work with professional astrologers to enhance their therapeutic and problem-solving skills with their clients. Bepin Behari was the keynote speaker at the Fifth International Symposium on Vedic Astrology which was held in October 1997 in Del Mar, California. Bepin will deeply missed by his friends, students and colleagues in the astrological, esoteric and metaphysical communities.

Tribute to Bepin Behari

Published in CVA Journal Vol. 1 No. 2 2005

It is with profound sadness that I inform all of you that our community has lost one of the foremost Vedic astrologers of our time.  The passing of Bepin Behari occurred on Saturday, July 23, 2005 at his home in Delhi, India, within weeks of the passing of his beloved wife.

I had the honor, along with David Frawley, Dennis Harness, and Jim Kelleher, of co-sponsoring Mr. Behari as our keynote speaker at the Fifth International Symposium on Vedic Astrology, October 2-7th, in San Diego, CA in 1997.  After the symposium, Mr. Behari traveled north with me to Seattle, WA, where he thrilled my students with a two day intensive on Mastering the Moon's Nakshatras.  Although, just having finished a rigorous schedule at the 5th symposium, Mr. Behari nevertheless, gave my students a full two days of exhilarating instruction on the Moon's Nakshatras, which he graciously allowed us to tape for posterity.  My wife and I had the pleasure of having Mr. Behari reside with us for over a week.  We were hoping to arrange a less strenuous schedule for him, but he would have none of it, often meeting with discussing charts with friends and students gathered round until the early hours of the evening.   The students affectionately named him "Mr. Nakshatra"  due to his comprehensive knowledge of each of the Nakshatras, and before he had left we sold our every single copy of his Nakshatra masterpiece: The Myths and Symbols of Vedic Astrology.

David Frawley said in tribute of Mr. Behari:  "Bepin Behari's many books contributed greatly to the modern understanding and popularity of Jyotish.  The dozens of books he published in India became a regular flow of ideas that kept readers engaged in Jyotish studies there, particularly on a spiritual and occult level. His several books published in the West were similarly helpful here and introduced many people to the subject for the first time.  It was my honor to work with him on several projects.  May his light continue to stream forth from the worlds beyond!". . .

Mr. Behari was active, beyond his years, right up to the time of his passing. . .

Thank you for so many of the memories and knowledge and truth you shared with so many of us Bepin Behari.  Good night Mr. Nakshatra.
