PAUL AND JOANNE CLANCYTogether Paul and Joanne Clancy built American Astrology from a fledgling magazine to a major popular magazine. The magazine was established on July 2, 1933, and was based in the New York City area from 1933-1965, ultimately moving to Tucson, Arizona. The magazine supported the work of many well-known astrologers, including several whose memorials are on this memorial site: Cyril Fagan, Donald Bradley, (a.k.a Garth Allen), and Jim Lewis. The couple is especially fondly remembered by practitioners of the sidereal school of astrology, for being among the first and most consistent publisher of articles on this branch of astrology. Canadian-American astrologer, Paul Clancy was the founder, publisher, and chief editor of American Astrology from 1933-1953. He also wrote, Planets: What They Mean. After he suffered a coronary thrombosis in 1953, his wife, Joanne S. Clancy, assumed responsibility for the magazine and continued to build it to a thriving publication. Joanne, being twenty years younger, continued as editor/publisher for many years, but retired in 1984. With her death in April, 2000, a publishing era came to an end.
Joanne's obituary in NCGR's Memberletter for June-July, 2000, says that Joanne Clancy was born April 16, 1917 at 7:00 AM EST in Erie, PA, agreeing with the information she gave Lois Rodden. She died April 8, 2000. Memorials A-K, Continued DO YOU HAVE ANYTHING TO ADD? This memorial is interactive, and we welcome
