Henrietta (Mike) Cramton was the only child of Rudolph Schwartz
and Betty (Klein) Schwartz. Her early childhood years were spent in
the Catskills of New York, until she moved with her family to Chicago
at age 15. In Chicago she met and married Earl W. Cramton, Sr., in
March 1934. They had two children - Earl W. Cramton, Jr., of Houston,
Texas and Harry O. Cramton of Tulsa.
The family moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, in 1952, and Mike was
introduced to astrology through a local Theosophy study group.
Astrology caught her interest, and she started taking classes locally
from Clarence Turner. She also extensively studied the works of
Evangeline Adams. When she started doing
readings, her practice was to do them only for those who provided
a referral from a mutual friend or another client. This led to her
accumulating a large retinue of clients who returned to her year
after year. Horary astrology was another area of her expertise.
She became a leading instructor and facilitator with the vast
knowledge she had accumulated, led by love, guidance, a gift of
intuition and good common sense. Mike was a highly intelligent woman,
a seeker of truth and a dedicated believer in God. This writer had
the good fortune to be in Mike’s astrology class in 1969, and
regarded Mike as her teacher, mentor, friend and advisor, and
probably the most influential person in her life except for
immediate family.
Mike was quite active in the astrology community throughout
the United States and was a popular speaker at many national
astrological conventions, especially the AFA. Although she intimidated many at first
with her strong opinions and curt comments, her glowing aura radiating
love, compassion and caring quickly overshadowed the brusqueness.
It was a source of pride to Mike and an inspiration to our astrological
community when the local college (now known as Tulsa Community College)
asked her to teach a special-interest non-credit course in astrology.
She taught this class for several years during the 1970's.
In 1984, Mike and Earl celebrated their Golden Anniversary, and
Earl died later that year. After his death, Mike cut back on her
traveling but continued to counsel and teach in Tulsa up to the
time of her final illness. On January 6, 2002, at 9:00 a.m., Mike
suffered a massive heart attack and remained hospitalized until
her death on February 5, 2002.
Mike will be greatly missed by many but lovingly remembered by way
of this memorial. Her son, Harry, is donating her vast collection of
astrology books, including many that are rare and out of print, to Kepler College.
Pat Graf also forwarded the online obituary from the Tulsa World of February 6, 2002:
