“To be a star, you must
shine your own light, follow your own path, and don't worry about the darkness,
for that is when the stars shine brightest”

Darlene Enber was a true Aquarian-- ahead of her time, in every way. She
was born in Chicago and started studying astrology at a time when
most women were content to be homemakers and caretakers of their
families. In 1974 or 75 she opened a bookstore in Hammond, Indiana
called the Astrology and Spiritual Center. Her Aries Moon in her
twelfth house was always active, always searching, always learning,
always interested in occult and esoteric subjects. She was an excellent
astrologer and taught classes in it out of her store, but also found
time to read up on UFOs and other "fringe" subjects, which
greatly interested her. An astute business women, Darlene ran her
business for 19 years, closing it down only when her husband passed
away and the building she owned was being torn down to make room
for the South Shore railroad to expand its operations.

During the life of her store, Darlene shipped books to
everyone, individuals and metaphysical stores alike. She was the
mobile bookstore for many NCGR conferences over her long career,
and I was privileged to travel along with her on many of them. Her
Jupiter in Taurus, right on my Sun, enabled us to "eat our
way across country", as we would laughingly say. We would pack
up her van, and it was "have bookstore will travel".
After she sold her store, she moved to Stockton, IL (up
near Galena) and opened a small bookstore there. But her health
was deteriorating and that storefront didn't stay open too long.
She had moved there because it was a "safe" area, according
to Edgar Case, and she was quite prepared for bad times to come,
including have a basement filled with canned goods, and a water
source on her property. I always told her, that if the end of the
world didn't come, she could open up a bed-and- breakfast instead
:-).

Darlene put her money where her heart was; she was a lifetime
member of NCGR since 1983 and was always willing to help her fellow
astrologers and store owners, by extending credit or donating books
when she could. Darlene was a loyal and wonderful friend, and many
of our community who have passed on were friends of hers-- Edie
Custer, Sophie Mason, and Barbara Krofel, to name a few.
Darlene, I hope you are right about the good aliens, and
wrong about the Reptilians and Trilaterals.
Darlene, we were all so blessed to have had you in our
lives...
