Herpes Simplex
The Herpes Simplex comes in two forms. Both forms tend to lie dormant and then spring up at the least likely times. Type I is found around the mouth and Type II develops around the genitals. As with any virus they can be fought off with the usual oral supplements of vitamin C and zinc.
Doctors have found that decreasing your intake of the amino acid arginine will minimize your risk of contracting a virus. Arginine rich foods include chocolate, carob, seeds, nuts (almonds especially), and the amino acid lysine; (found in vegetables, legumes, turkey, fish, chicken) tends to work in the other direction - staving off viral infections. The implication is to watch what you eat when you have a flare up from herpes.
Dont forget garlic! It is nature's natural B-complex. Siberian ginseng has also been shown to boost the immune system by boosting energy levels which are needed to fight off infections of any sort.
Reading the labels on your balms when you go to the drug store will lead you to balms that take advantage of teatree oil, an age old remedy which can be applied topically several times a day to reduce the spread of infection.
If your infection gets really out of hand, try some echinacea.
Take about 500 mg or so, three times a day with your meals.
